The house
The house is the space of intimacy for families. Even though family structures have evolved, housing is still designed around premises of the past. The same compartmentalized spaces are produced, as they were centuries ago, with little to no variation. This compartmentalization often discriminates against the use that women make of the house.
The house should be a the space of the utmost familiarity and naturalness, with spaces that are both open and private in order to contribute to a more secure and relaxed atmosphere. At the same time, the house is the workplace for many women, who in their role as homemakers or "double work day" work women, have to carry out domestic chores, to a more or less degree, on their own. Although it is true that male involvement in these chores is growing, the data shows that women still spend far more time on them than men do.
